If you are halfway through the preparations for your move to L.A., then you will most likely already understand how much there is to keep in mind throughout the process. Add in to the equation the pets, and you have an even bigger problem on your hands! Moving house with pets is always going to be difficult, but it is certainly manageable, if you are well prepared. You will find that depending on the type of animal, there are certain precautions that you have to take to ensure that you are not at risk of upsetting the animal, nor allowing it to run off! These should be perfectly manageable if you are able to get everything in place well in advance of the move itself. Check out the following tips on house relocation with the pets in tow.
These are the most popular pets that people have, and therefore will be the most asked after when it comes to wondering how to get them from place to place. If you have traveled with either of these animals before, you will know that they need to have a bit of space in the boot or a cage, depending on their size. The issue with both of these on a long move is that they will need to be let out regularly, or they can become rather distressed. The same goes for humans, especially children and older people, so it makes sense to have a separate convoy traveling on a longer journey, with any pets, kids or elderly relatives in one car, and another member of the family going ahead with the moving team, to ensure that there is someone at the other end of the journey who can help with the unloading of the moving vans.
Reptiles and Amphibians
With reptiles and amphibians, you will find that the best way to move them depends on the species that you own. Some people will have to take out specialist home move measures to ensure that the heat and stability of the tank is consistent, or the animals can get stressed, and this can lead to some animals dying or shedding their tails! If you are not aware of how to safely transport your pet, then consult a specialist. Otherwise, keep the tank level, cover it with a blanket to keep it dark, and ensure that nothing knocks the tank, so as not to scare the animal.
Fish
Depending on how delicate or exotic your fish are, they are usually fine to be kept in plastic bags of water that can be loaded into a box in order to keep them sturdy. You will find that this method works well, but it is essential that you do not overlook a couple of things. Firstly, ensuring that there is enough air in the top of the bag for the fish to take oxygen from for the duration of your move is vital, or the fish could die. Secondly, you need to ensure that the bags do not tip over, as this can be very disorientating for the fish. Be sure to warn anyone carrying the packing boxes on that they need to treat the fish box with care.
Birds
Most birds will be fine to stay in their cages, and if they get distressed easily, putting a sheet over the cage so that they are not aware of their surroundings will often help. Large aviaries will be much more of a logistical problem however, so you may need specialist commercial relocation help.
