Where To Meet New People in L.A.

In a city as large as Los Angeles, it can be challenging to figure out how to start building a network. Here are a few tips to help you.

Moving to a new city is scary, especially one the size of L.A. In a place with so many people, it can be a challenge to know where to even start trying to meet new friends. L.A. people are actually very friendly, and more than willing to add a new member to their group. Just take the initiative to put yourself out there and before long, your phone will be packed with new contacts.

Four Ways to Meet New People in LA

  • Meetup.com: No matter what you’re into, there’s an L.A. Meetup group for it. Whether you’re looking for friends to network with, a book club, fellow fitness enthusiasts, moms, or pretty much anything else, you’re sure to find like-minded people on this site.
  • Professional Organizations: Not only are these types of groups great for networking and making business connections, they’re also a great place to meet new friends. Organizations like MBA Women International, the Technology Council of Southern California, and the Los Angeles Paralegal Association host functions like happy hours, charity events, and other mixers for members to get to know one another.
  • Fitness Classes: It’s no secret that people in L.A. love to workout. Become a regular at yoga, Pilates, Zumba, or any other form of exercise class, and you just might befriend some fellow fitness enthusiasts.
  • Volunteer at a Charity: Taking the time to volunteer for a good cause like Project Angel Food, the Beauty Bus Foundation, or Dress for Success will not only allow you to help others in need, you’ll get the chance to meet other big-hearted, genuine people. This is a great way to become a part of our city, while making friends with other philanthropists.

The places listed above can help you to make connections, but the most consistent way to meet people in L.A. is by doing what you love. In turn, you’ll likely meet others with similar interests. Breaking into social scenes can be a bit intimidating initially, especially if you’re a naturally shy person rolling solo.  But challenge yourself to take the initiative and you’ll certainly be glad you did!
